Fish Fry

The marinated fish is shallow-fried until it turns crispy and golden brown. The frying process helps to seal in the flavors and create a delightful crunch on the outside while keeping the fish tender and succulent on the inside.

GSB style fish fry is often served as a standalone appetizer or a side dish with steamed rice, chapati, or other Indian bread. It pairs exceptionally well with coconut-based curries or simple lemon wedges to balance the spiciness.

With its mouthwatering blend of spices and the freshness of the fish, GSB style fish fry is a beloved dish that celebrates the coastal culinary traditions of the Goud Saraswat Brahmin community and leaves a lasting impression on anyone fortunate enough to savor it.

How to make a Fish Fry :

Start by cleaning the fish and cutting it into pieces about 1 inch thick or according to your preference. Proceed by preparing the marinade for the fish and thoroughly coat the pieces with it. Let the marinated fish rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Next, heat a tawa or pan and add a coating of oil. Allow it to heat up. Coat the marinated fish pieces in semolina and proceed to shallow fry them on the tawa or pan. Fry until the fish is cooked through, and the coating turns crispy.

Fish fry

To make GSB style fish fry, fresh fish fillets, usually from fish like pomfret or mackerel, are marinated in a blend of aromatic spices and herbs. The marinade typically includes a mix of red chili powder, turmeric, ginger-garlic paste, tamarind or kokum extract for tanginess, and sometimes a dash of vinegar. This spicy and tangy marinade is what sets GSB style fish fry apart from other fish fry recipes.
